About Polygons and Rectangles
Polygons and rectangles delineate layer regions that are to have one of the following operations performed on them:
§ Clip - Cuts away the area outside the polygon.
§ Exclusion - Cuts away the area inside the polygon.
Note: Exclusion polygons are Clip polygons with the Apply Operation set to Outside Shape.
§ Fill Color/Elevation- Fills the polygon area. In image layers, the filling is a color whereas in elevation layers, the filling is an elevation value.
§ Null Value - Erases a selected color or elevation value within the polygon area.
Polygons have two Shape Types:
§ Polygon - A general polygon. A closed shape with straight sides. The number of sides is unlimited.
§ Rectangle - A specific polygon with four sides and 90° angles.
Polygon operations can be implemented:
§ Inside Shape - The polygon operation is performed only inside the polygon.
§ Outside Shape – The polygon operation is performed everywhere on the layer except inside the polygon.
Polygon markings are as follows:
Marking |
Description |
Light green border |
Indicates the boundaries of a polygon or rectangle attached to layers that are currently in Edit mode. |
Dark green border |
Indicates the boundaries of a polygon or rectangle attached to layers that are currently not in Edit mode. |
White border |
Indicates a polygon or rectangle is selected. |
Yellow border |
Indicates a polygon’s feather boundary. |
Blue frame with white arrows |
Indicates the layer(s) a selected polygon is attached to. |
Note: One polygon can be attached to many layers and each layer can have many polygons attached to it. A polygon can be edited if a layer it is attached to is in Edit mode.
